Healthy Eating Tips For The Workplace
Eating healthily when at work doesn’t need to involve a lot of effort. Small changes that are easy to implement, give huge rewards in terms of health.
Here are some ideas to get you and your colleagues started:
- Swap the office sweet tin for a fruit bowl, no excuse for not eating something for breakfast!
- Swap your first cup of tea/coffee for a small glass of fruit juice.
- Tired of the same old sandwich? Try swapping it for a wrap, bagel or even toasted teacake. Or get some of your of your 5 A Day in by having soup and fruit with bread.
- Avoid eating biscuits in the meeting by swapping them for some grapes.
- Fill a 500ml bottle of water at the start of the day and ensure you have drunk 2 bottles by the end of the day. Keep it on your desk!
- Swap the crisps you have a lunchtime with some dried fruit.
Other desk snack ideas include: wholemeal crackers, low salt and low fat soups, breakfast cereals, rice cakes, bread sticks, raisins, figs, pumpkin seeds and low sugar cereal bars.
Healthy Eating Activities
Team Lunch
Each employee brings a healthy lunch with them e.g. Tuna wrap, salad, fruit salad etc. The employee has a ‘buddy’ for that particular lunch time.
The pair then swap over their healthy lunches and enjoy what their buddy has created.
Helps give each other fresh, healthy ideas and boost team morale.
Come Dine with me at Lunch Challenge
Across the week a group of colleagues organise this challenge to provide lunch for 3 other colleagues.
The lunch must be healthy and nutritional. Each day the setting can vary, for example one lunch can take place outside for a picnic style dinner time.
After each meal the other colleagues score the lunch out of 10. The winner can then gain some recognition within the workplace i.e. ‘Chef of the week’ etc.
