Active Lifestyles is a service that helps you increase your physical activity to improve your health.


Who the service is for?


The service is mainly for adults in Hull with low to moderate medical conditions although anyone who is aged 12+ and inactive can access.


What support do we offer?


Your Active Lifestyles Advisor will offer support, agree health goals and help you to stay positive and motivated in making changes to your lifestyles. Venues across the city.


How long does the service run for?


You can be supported by your Active Lifestyles Advisor for up to 6 months.

What Clients Can Expect - Hull Health Trainers


Whatever the goal, Hull Health Trainers can provide FREE, local and confidential one-to-one support and information tailored to meet your needs.


Health Trainers also offer information on how to access local support that is right for you to lose weight and become more active.


Who the service is for?


Health Trainers are there for anybody in Hull aged 12 years or upwards and can work from a wide range of community venues. Home visits can also be made if necessary.


What support do we offer?


We offer flexible support to cater for a range of health needs. A Personal Health Plan is created for everybody who takes up the one-to-one support service to address and monitor individual choice and goals. Health Trainers empower people to be healthy by offering a wide range of information, support and guidance.


How long does the service run for?


A Health Trainer can work with someone for around six sessions, with each session lasting up to an hour.




What Clients Can Expect - Why Weight?


The Why Weight? Programme is a weight management / loss programme provided by NHS Hull and City Health Care Partnership.


We promote the service as Fun, Free and Friendly.


The programme promotes calorie reduction and increased exercise, changes to what we eat and how it is cooked.


All information is based on government guidelines and has the input of a community dietician.


Who the service is for?

  • Open to Men and Women
  • Client has to live in Hull or be registered with a GP in Hull
  • Client has to be aged between 18-74 years
  • Client has to have a BMI of 25 or over

NB. The advising dietician has informed the team that people with the following conditions cannot be accepted onto the programme:


  • Anyone diagnosed with an eating disorder (Anorexics Bulimics), unless their GP states that the programme would be suitable for them (it is a calorie controlled programme).
  • Pregnancy.
  • Type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes if taking insulin.
  • Bipolar or those suffering form similar mental health issues.
  • Heart attack and stroke sufferers within the first three months of attacks.
  • Within the first year of having weight loss surgery.
  • Under 18s and over 74 years.

What support do we offer?


We explain and demonstrate:

  • What a healthy balanced diet is.
  • How to achieve a healthy diet by making small changes.
  • How to choose the right foods, read food labels and use cooking methods to produce healthy food.
  • Cook, taste and exercise sessions.
  • How to maintain a healthy weight.

How long does the service run for?


The Why Weight? Programme runs for ten weeks, each weekly session lasts for two hours.
